Solving the challenge of circular urban environment by combining hospitality and ‘Treating Life Well©’.
Treating Life Well© is a scalable blueprint for circular urban city development. Creating a circular urban environment is not only about solving challenges by technique and smart buildings but first and foremost about how we can live a healthy and sustainable life.”
Xander Bueno de Mesquita is the Initiator and founding father of the sustainable hotel-concept applied in the QO hotel Amsterdam and owner of the unique concept of ‘Treating Life Well©’.
Xander Bueno de Mesquita: “To me sustainability means co-creation. Figuring out together what a circular urban environment could look like. Usually developers tend to focus only on architects and contractors in regards of co-creation. I involved the whole city: story-tellers, local authorities, banks and scientists with local community and innovative disruptors. One of the tools I used to connect the community is urban farming. I am most proud of the innovative Aquaponics green house that has been realized not only together with the Dutch University of Wageningen, but also together with new kids on the block like sustainable scale-up Metabolic (NL). You need to be able to think outside the box and be open for new and sometimes crazy co-creations.
At the start of the development we created the manifesto for Treating Life Well©. This credential was given to everyone involved and was used as a guidance. This manifesto explains the main purpose: to create an environment for people who take care of themselves, each other and life. This to me stands at the core of sustainability. It’s about taking care of each other and the environment. True Hospitality is about exactly the same thing and is a great added value. I am thoroughly convinced that by means of hospitality we can speed up the sustainable solutions of the world.”
