Sharing lessons from City-zen’s innovations for cities looking for clean-energy solutions.
A city operating entirely on clean energy. In theory, it’s possible. But in real life? How to integrate new solutions in existing buildings, systems and people’s lives? What are the technical, economic or social barriers? And how to overcome these? City-zen’s goal is to find out how this can be made possible. In 20 real-life projects in Amsterdam and Grenoble, parties work closely together to implement innovative solutions for cities where only clean energy is used: solar power, wind and geothermal energy, and biomass.
Our real-life projects teach us how we can implement innovations in the city and in which way they really contribute to a sustainable future. This special approach suits Amsterdam Smart City’s and Grenoble Eco-Cité’s ambitions. Together, these 2 cities form one of the biggest Smart Energy laboratories of Europe with activities focused on building retrofitting, smart grids, heating&cooling, methodology, monitoring and integrated societal issues.
We are now entering the final phase of City-zen in which we start to deliver the demonstration projects and move to deployment and dissemination. This event provides an excellent opportunity to share our learnings, to network and to look for deployment opportunities. For example, with our bio-refinery project that supports treatment of separated waste water as facilitator for circular cities.
